Rachel E. Lawson, age 95, of Mount Vernon, Ohio, passed away on Wednesday, December 6, 2017 at Country Court Nursing Center in Mount Vernon. She was born on August 30, 1922 in Tazewell, Virginia the daughter of John and Mittie (Gore) DeBoard. Rachel was employed as a nurse aid for several of the local nursing homes.

She is survived by her two sons, Leroy (Marilyn M.) Lawson of Utica and Tommy (Cathy) Lawson of Rochester, New York; a daughter, Betty Gleason of Mansfield; eleven grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren; a brother, Glen “Shorty” DeBoard of Mount Vernon; two sisters, Anna Kirby of Ocean Springs, Mississippi and Laura White of Centerburg.

Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Roy Lawson; a son, Danny Lawson; two grandchildren, Randy Lawson and Christopher Gleason; four sisters, Oria McGinnis, Helen Mae Meier, Trivel DeBoard and Minnie Bird; four brothers, Marvin DeBoard, Walter DeBoard, Arthur DeBoard and Fritzhugh DeBoard.

The family will observe a graveside service at a later date. The Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home of Mount Vernon is honored to serve the family of Rachel E. Lawson.

  • I was very sorry to hear of Aunt Rachel’s passing. She was a special aunt and good friend to me. I’ll always remember working in her yard, sharing pizzas at the kitchen table, and watching reruns on TV with her, laughing the whole time. Rest in peace, Aunt Rachel.
