R. Vaughn Taylor

December 17, 1935 ‒ December 29, 2017

Fredericktown, Ohio

R. Vaughn Taylor, age 82, of Fredericktown passed away Friday evening, December 29, 2017 at home surrounded by his loving family. He was born December 17, 1935 in Richland County to the late Harlan and Rhea (Pifer) Taylor.

Vaughn honorably served his country in the Air National Guard from 1953 to 1961.  He was a faithful member of the Palmyra Church of Christ.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing, Native American history, collecting rocks, mission trips to Africa and South American, but most of all he loved to travel with his wife, Bonnie.  Vaughn was active with the boy scouts and volunteered and provided blood for the American Red Cross, where he was just one pint short of 20 gallons total of donations.  Vaughn retired from Cooper Energy Services where he worked as a draftsman.

Vaughn is survived by his wife of 63 years, Bonnie (Bowser) Taylor; his children and caregivers, Glenn (Marsha) Taylor, Barbara (Tom) Taylor-Leedy, Brenda (Don) Putnam, and Dawn Taylor all of Fredericktown; 4 grandchildren, one step-grandson, 5 great grandchildren, and 3 step-great grandchildren; sister-in-law’s, Helen Taylor and Leile Ernsberger of Mansfield; a special friend and caregiver, Jim Cook; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

In addition to his parents, Vaughn was preceded in death by sisters, Dorothy Wuthrich and Evelyn Ryan; and brothers, Richard Glenn, Merle and Harlan Taylor.

The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. on Friday, January 5, 2018 at the Palmyra Church of Christ, 21184 Zolman Rd., Fredericktown, where a funeral service celebrating the life of Vaughn will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 6, 2018 with Evangelist Troy Northrop officiating. The family will receive friends also one hour prior to the funeral.  Military honors will be provided by the Knox County Joint Veterans Council.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Palmyra Mission Committee at the church or Hospice of Knox County, 17700, Coshocton Rd., Mount Vernon, OH 43050.

  • Bonnie & Family,
As we mourn the passing of a great guy, I can’t help but remember all the wonderful times we had at your house over the years and how much Vaughn taught us. He was so patient and kind, and always welcoming. We were recently looking at pictures of lean-tos and campsites and remembering those happy times. The one thing I most remember is the corn-cob jelly he taught me to make. He touched so many lives in such a positive way. We will miss him. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you through this sad time.

  • Dear Bonnie,

We look back on our visits fondly with you and Vaughn. Though we didn’t see each other but once a year, it was always the high-point of our trip up ‘north’. I especially remember riding the bumpy road in the cart out through the woods and to the lake. You drove the girls out in one cart and Vaughn, Gene and my husband John followed in the other. It was a beautiful fall day and we had a lovely time with you both. The picture of us that day hangs on my family’s picture wall and will always stay in my heart. Love to you and the family – Linda Pifer-Pollock and John.

  • Vaughn was one of the “Good Guys”. We loved him as a brother in Christ, truly a very nice man.
Our sadness is just for our loss in this life but knowing his new life is with his Lord whom he loved and shared . Bonnie, Brenda, Dawn and Barb, we will miss him and our prayers are with each of you.

  • Dear Taylor Family

Vaughn and Bonnie, and their children as they were growing up, have been my neighbors for the last 40 years. We never did the come over for coffee thing, but I always knew that I could count on them if I needed help. How their children and grandchildren stepped up to help Bonnie take care of Vaughn is a great tribute to how they raised their family and the values they instilled in them.

There is nothing any of us can really do or say to ease your pain, except to cherish all the good and happy times you shared with Vaughn, because even death can’t take memories from you.

Our prayers are with you all during this time of deep sadness. You just need to know that we are thinking of you and sharing in your grief.

The Mizer Family………..Janet, Jay, and Jamie

  • I am so sorry to learn of Vaughn’s passing. I only learned of it this morning. Vaughn was a co-worker at Cooper and someone I respected a lot. He was kind and caring; even looked out for my grandmother who lived near by him, making sure her driveway got plowed so she could get out. My sincere condolences to the family. God bless and comfort you.
