R. Janice Baker, 86, of Mount Gilead and formerly of Marengo died Tuesday morning, January 5, 2010 at her residence at Candlewood Lake.

She was born on June 1, 1923 in New Winchester, Ohio the daughter of the late William and Freelove (Shreck) Cress.

Janice was a graduate of Iberia High school in the class of 1941 and later attended business college.

On May 2, 1944 she married Lester Gale Baker and they were married for 55 years before his passing in 1999.

She was employed by Snyder Milling in Marengo for over 20 years as their book keeper, retiring in 1996.

Janice was a member of the Ebenezer United Methodist Church where she was active in the United Methodist Women.

She was also a member of the Galion Golden Agers and a volunteer at the Morrow County Hospital as a Golden Twig.

Janice was very skilled at most types of handcrafts; knitting, sewing, and quilting, just to name a few.

She also loved feeding and watching the birds of Candlewood. Recently, she was excited to see a male and female Pileated Woodpecker visit her yard.

She will be missed by her daughters Joyce Baker of Athens, Tennessee and Janet Baker of Columbus, Ohio; 2 grandchildren Nancy McCarthy and Kara Kelley; and 4 great grandchildren Alex and Shawn McCarthy and Olivia and Lauren Kelley.

In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by her son David L. Baker in 1997.

Friends may call on the family on Thursday January 7, 2010 from 3-6 p.m. at the Snyder Funeral Home, 76 South Main Street, Mount Gilead. Pastor Gary Lamb-Hart will conduct services there on Friday at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow in Shauck Cemetery.
