Phyllis Ruth Mitchell

Phyllis Ruth Mitchell, 86, formerly of Galion and Marion, died Sunday, Mar. 11, 2012 at the Fairhaven Community in Upper Sandusky.
Born Sept. 5, 1925 in Marion, she was the daughter of the late Everett C. and Hazel A. Smith Spears. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Clifford C. Drake whom she married in 1946 and James B. Mitchell whom she married in 1958.
She was a graduate of Harding High School in 1943 and attended St. Vincent School of Nursing in Toledo and graduated from Holland Community Hospital in Holland, Mich. She was a member of the Cadet Nursing Corps in the United States Navy and a member of Christ United Methodist Church in Galion, a previous member St. Mark United Methodist Church in Galion and a member of Bucyrus Women of the Moose. She was a Licensed Practical Nurse and retired in 1976 from Bucyrus Community Hospital having previously worked as a nurse in Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota and Marion.
She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Sandy Drake and Melvin Blair, of Harpster; two sons and daughters-in-law; Richard C. “Rick” and Judy Berry Drake of Marion and Kevin J. and Cheryl Lynch Mitchell of Marion; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and two sisters, Donna Clark of Marion and Delores Simpkins of Reynoldsburg.
She was preceded in death by a step-daughter, Codetta Mitchell Clark and three sisters, Colleen Griffith, Twila Frost and Ann Hollis.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 7 at Grace Baptist Church, 1560 Marion Marysville Rd., Marion with Pastor Nick Worden and Pastor Bill Middleton officiating. Following the service there will be visiting time with the family along with snacks and beverages in the church dining room. Interment will be in Chapel Heights Memory Gardens in Marion.
