Phyllis Anne Applegate

January 21, 1932 ‒ November 04, 2006

Mount Gilead, Ohio

Phyllis Anne Applegate, 74, of Mount Gilead died Saturday morning, November 4, 2006 at the Community Health Care Center in Marion.

She was born on January 21, 1932 in Highland Park, Michigan the daughter of the late Joseph and Gretta LaMonde. On October 9, 1954 she married Edward “Chuck” Applegate and they resided in Deerfield, Michigan before moving the family to Green Camp, Ohio in 1966. In 1994 they built their home on County Road 98 in Mount Gilead and have lived there ever since. Phyllis was a member of the Church of the Sacred Hearts in Cardington.

She was very proud of her role as a housewife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She took those roles very seriously creating many special memories for the grandkids. One summer she, Chuck, and the five grandchildren piled into a six person RV and traveled out west for a 3 ½ week adventure. The kids ranged in ages kindergarten through high school.

Phyllis loved all outdoor activities including fishing and hunting. In fact she bagged her first deer before her husband. She enjoyed ice fishing, sitting with her son in his shanty in Michigan for hours; even driving her car out on the ice to bring him lunch.

Phyllis was a gifted artist; painting with acrylics and oils; often animals she would see while out in nature or maybe on her many trips to the zoo. She and the great grandchildren went four times over this past summer!

She loved shopping the QVC channel and taking her grandchildren with her to various stores on her motorized scooter.

In addition to her husband she is survived by her two sons; Lamont (Beverly) of Hudson, Michigan and Gerald (Linda) of Iberia, Ohio, five grandchildren, Joseph (Tonya), Jennifer (JD), Dustin (Tiffany), Jason, and Jessica, three step grandchildren, Jason (LeeAnne), Andrew (Jennifer), and Joseph, 5 great grandchildren, Nathaniel, Jada, Madelynn, Luke, and Emilee Anne, and 3 step great grandchildren, Cherokee, Remington, and Landon.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her brothers Gerald and Ronald LaMonde.
