Phyliss ​Ann Hufford, age 88, of Utica, Ohio, passed away unexpectedly at her home Thursday, October 4, 2018.  She was born on April 5, 1930 in Tiffin, Ohio the daughter of Laben and Doris (Christofer) Fry.

Phyliss and her late husband, Ned Hufford, owned and operated for over 55 years, the Hufford’s Ben Franklin 5 and 10 in Utica.  They opened their shop together in 1959. Phyliss was a faithful and devoted wife, mother and grandmother that took pride in teaching her children how to care for one another and always treat others with respect.

Phyliss enjoyed bowling and was a member of several leagues in Utica.  She was also a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in St. Louisville, Ohio.  One of her proudest moments came when she purchased the Jewett home on Main Street in Utica for the use of the Utica Historical Society (aka Hufford House Museum) in honor of her husband, Ned Hufford.

She is survived by her children; Tamara (Roger) Hufford-Wong of Tigard, Oregon, Tonya Hufford of Utica, twin boys, Barton Hufford of Utica and Bradford (Raye) Hufford of Utica; four grandchildren, Chancey (Zach) Jonas, Schuyler Wong, ​​and Taylor and Sydney Hufford.  She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Ned Hufford; a sister, Pat Jacobs and a brother, Lynn Fry.

Friends may call on Tuesday from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Utica United Methodist Church, 626 North Street, Utica, Ohio 43080 where a funeral service will be held on Wednesday beginning at 11 a.m.  A graveside service will follow at 3 p.m. in Mount Zion Cemetery in Sycamore, Ohio.
