Phillip Douglas Lehmkuhl, Esq., 68, of Mount Vernon passed away on Friday, December 6, 2019. He was born on July 17, 1951 in Springfield to the late John Allen and Doris Marie (Cappelli) Lehmkuhl. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Allen Lehmkuhl of Springfield, Ohio.

Phillip was a proud graduate of Springfield Catholic Central High School, The Ohio State University, and received is his Juris Doctor degree from the University of Dayton. Originally in private practice with his brother, Allen, he moved to the Ohio Division of Securities, where he was ultimately appointed Commissioner. Next, he worked for the law firm of Squires, Sanders and Dempsey (Cleveland & Columbus offices) until he went into private practice in Mount Vernon, Ohio.

Phillip was a brilliant man in countless ways and enjoyed speaking with anyone willing to listen. As an attorney, he was unparalleled as an advocate for his clients. He was incredibly knowledgeable in sports topics and was a baseball savant. He found great enjoyment as a harness horse owner and was an avid fan of the sport. He was always willing to interject humor into any situation and was a tremendously loving provider to his family.

Phillip is survived by his wife, Carolynne (Wieteki) Lehmkuhl; children Katherine Marie Lehmkuhl, Kari Elizabeth (Benjamin James) Griffith, Phillip Douglas Lehmkuhl II and Kirby Aurora Lehmkuhl; sister, Aurora Sue Lehmkuhl of Springfield; brothers, Stephen Lehmkuhl of Springfield and J. Craig Lehmkuhl of Columbus; and several nieces and nephews.

The family welcomes the community to visit Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home, 201 Newark Rd., Mount Vernon for calling hours from 4-6 p.m. on Friday, December 20th with a remembrance service to begin at 6 p.m. Inurnment will be held at Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Springfield on the opening day of Major League Baseball 2020.
