Mount Gilead, Ohio

Paul Schmidt Jr., age 88, of Mount Gilead, died Wednesday evening, December 24, 2014, at his residence.

On March 30, 1926, Paul was born in Cleveland, OH, the son of the late Paul Sr. and Katherine (Beirle) Schmidt. He graduated from Euclid Shore High School in the Class of 1944.

In October of 1944, Paul was drafted into the U.S. Army. He served his country in Germany towards the end of World War II.

For many years, he was a manager in the design department for SHALCO in Cleveland, and later held a similar position at H.P.M. in Mount Gilead.

Paul was a quiet man who kept to himself. He enjoyed being at home playing games on his computer or watching shows and movies on Netflix. He also enjoyed getting on his ham radio with the call sign “KD8SZ”, and ran a radio net for many years.

Paul will be dearly missed by his son, Karl (Monika) Schmidt, of Colorado Springs, CO; his daughter, Karol (Glen) Holvinski of Ft. Valley, GA; and two grandsons, Kevin and David Schmidt.

Per Paul’s wishes, no funeral services will be held.
