Patti Lou Schlecht

April 14, 1930 ‒ November 15, 2009

Marion, Ohio

Patti Lou (Drake) Schlecht, age 79, of Candlewood Lake in Mount Gilead, and formerly of Marion, died Sunday evening, November 15, 2009, at the Marion General Hospital following a brief illness.

On April 14, 1930, Patti was born in Marion, Ohio, the daughter of the late Patrick and Florence (Rathell) Drake. She graduated from Marion Harding High School in the Class of 1948.

Shortly following her graduation, Patti married her loving husband, Leroy B. Schlecht, February 11, 1950, at the Wesley United Methodist Church in Marion. Together they raised three children and shared over forty eight wonderful years of marriage. He preceded her in death on September 20, 1998.

After raising her children and taking care of her home, Patti went to work for the Whirlpool Corporation later in life, where she worked for over twenty years.

A woman of many talents, Patti loved first and foremost to paint, though she was also an “artist in many different forms.”

Having a green thumb, Patti loved to work in the yard, tending to her beloved flowers. Known for her hostas, “she had more hostas than anyone you would ever know.” She also enjoyed feeding the many birds who came to her bird feeders.

A woman of deep faith, Patti was a member of the North Robinson United Methodist Church and formerly was a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church in Marion.

Always putting her family first, Patti loved to be surrounded by her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

An excellent cook, Patti was best known for her apple pies and pickles, which were simply, “the best.”

With a love for being around water, Patti chose to move to Candlewood Lake in 1995, where she enjoyed her many friends and her card club.

For the past 8 years, Patti has had a second chance at love with her loving companion, Curtis Davy.

Patti will be dearly missed by her three children: Michael (Bonnie) Schlecht of Nashville, Tennessee, and their children: Sunshine (Andrew) Bean of Marion, and Samantha (Luke) Gray of Tulsa, Oklahoma; Sylinda “Cindy” (David) Pratt of Mount Gilead, and their children: Crystal Pratt of Marion, and Michael Pratt of West Chester; and Patrick Schlecht of Hilliard, and his sons: Patrick “Alex” Schlecht of Marion, and Spencer Grant of Hilliard; four great-grandchildren: Carson Bowling, Sarah-Faith Bean, Addison Steele, and Addalyn Pratt; and a sister-in-law, Marilyn Drake of Sandusky.

Including her husband, Patti was preceded in death by her brother Richard Drake.

The Schlecht family will greet friends from 4 – 7 p.m. on Wednesday, November 18, 2009, at the Denzer-Farison-Hottinger & Snyder Funeral Home, 360 E. Center St., Marion, where services celebrating her life will be held on Thursday at 10:30 a.m., with Pastor Dan Wilson officiating. Burial will follow in Marion Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the North Robinson United Methodist Church, or to a charity of the donor’s choice and they may be sent in care of the funeral home.
