Patricia Ann (Geyer) Staley

July 12, 1944 ‒ July 05, 2015

Mount Gilead, Ohio

Patricia Ann (Geyer) Staley, age 70, of Mount Gilead, died Sunday morning,  July 5, 2015, at her home with her loving family by her side following over a 20 year battle with cancer.

On July 12, 1944, Pat was born in Galion, Ohio, the middle of three children of Charlotte (Hart) Geyer and the late Melvin “Mell” Geyer.  She was a lifelong resident of Mount Gilead, where she graduated from Mount Gilead High School in the class of 1962.  She then attended Bowling Green University, and graduated from CBU Charm School and St. Louis Institute of Music.

Pat met her husband to be, Donald Staley, in school.  They were married on October 3, 1964, at the First Baptist Church.  They shared 44 years of marriage and lovingly raised five children.  He preceded her in death on May 7, 2009.

Pat grew up working in the family grocery business, Geyer’s Market. Her love of crafts inspired her and a friend to have a gift shop, the Window Box, on Iberia Street for a couple years. Once all of her kids were in school, she began working for Morrow County Job and Family Services in the Children Services Department and later the Child Support Department.

Pat was a faithful member of the Pleasant Grove Church of Christ, where she was a Sunday school teacher for several years and arranged their weekly bulletins until recently.  She also was a member of the Morrow County Republican Women.

Pat devoted her life to her family. She also enjoyed traveling and wintering in Florida, playing the organ, and she had many laughs over double solitaire with her family and friends.

She will be dearly missed by her five children: Brent (Teresa) Staley of Bradenton, FL, Craig (Karie) Staley of Mount Gilead, Pamela Staley of Marengo, Adam (Kelly) Staley of Fredericktown, and Amanda (Bill) Forquer of Mount Gilead; ten grandchildren: Alissa (Mike) Carey, Kristin and Alex Staley, Rebecca, Kimberly, and Nicole Staley, Wyatt Young, Ethan and Dawson Staley, and Daniel Forquer; a great-granddaughter, Ellie Carey; her mother, Charlotte Geyer of Mount Gilead; brother, Tom (Diane) Geyer of Mount Gilead; sister, Pam (Rodney) Clinger of Edison; brother-in-law, Virgil (Josie) Staley of Mount Gilead; and several nieces and nephews.

Services honoring Pat’s life will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, July 8th, at the Pleasant Grove Church of Christ, 7197 Co. Rd. 46, Mount Gilead, with Pastors Don and Ray Linn officiating.  Burial will follow in Rivercliff Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, and they may be sent to the care of the funeral home.

Snyder Funeral Homes of Mount Gilead are honored to have been chosen to serve Pat’s family and your condolences may be expressed to them by visiting

through school and beyond. We had children about the same age so we joined
Pat and Don on several trips to Cincinnati to see a Red’s game. Such good times!!

  • Sending prayers and condolences to Pat’s family and many friends who will miss her immensely. I have been gone from the Mt. Gilead area for much of our adult lives but enjoyed working on the Class of 1962 reunions with Pat. She never lost her sense of humor and zest for life. Will think fondly of her whenever we old friends get together.

  • To Pat’s Family:

  • Much love to the Geyer/Staley family. I was so envious of my good friend, Pam, that she had such a wonderful sister.
Pat always had me laughing on the many sleep-overs at the Geyer home. Pat married a close friend of my brother, but we had moved away by then.
I know Don has been waiting and there is rejoicing in heaven at Pat’s arrival.
May God bless all of you on the loss of your loved one.

  • Pat and I were particularly close the summer during our high school years that we both attended the St.Louis Institute of Music to earn piano teaching credentials.

She was a wonderful person and I will remember her for her positive attitude, great sense of humor and her radiant smile.

Since I live on the West Coast it has been more difficult to stay connected but I am so grateful to have visited with her at our 50th reunion.

Your family and friends are in my thoughts and in my heart as you grieve your loss and celebrate this exceptional and loving woman.
