Patricia A. “Pat” Goodman

May 19, 1937 ‒ February 11, 2009

Mount Gilead, Ohio

Patricia A. “Pat” Goodman, age 71, of Mount Gilead, died Wednesday morning, February 11, 2009, at the Marion General Hospital following an extended illness.

On May 19, 1937, Pat was born in Marion, Ohio, the daughter of the late Edgar and Edith (Spaulding) Jones. After being raised in New Bloomington through her childhood, her family moved to Cardington a few years before she would graduate from Cardington High School in the Class of 1955.

Shortly following her graduation, Pat married her husband of over fifty three years, William “Bill” Goodman, on July 15, 1955. The two of them met at her sister Millie’s wedding in 1953, and found themselves talking for hours, and the rest was history.

For over thirty years, Pat worked at ITT North Electric in Galion, in many different capacities working her way up to being an expeditor. Later, she worked as a cashier at the Duke Station in Mount Gilead for several years.

To say Pat was an avid bingo player would be an understatement, as she would enjoy playing every day if she could find enough places to play. After her many years of playing, Pat would often say she “helped build three fire stations” because of her countless bingo donations. She played at various American Legion Halls throughout Morrow, Marion and Delaware Counties.

Enjoying the company of her friends, Pat often visited the Senior Carry In in Marengo, Seniors on Center in Mount Gilead, or she would go to their homes. Once everyone was together, she would encourage everyone to play a friendly game of cards.

Always looking to have fun, Pat often teased everyone to try and get a rise out of them, especially her husband, Bill.

With her loving and caring nature, Pat would drop everything to go and take care of her family when they needed her.

Pat will be dearly missed by her husband, Bill Goodman of Mount Gilead; son, Patrick “Rick” (Tammy) Goodman of Marengo; daughter, Malinda “Sue” (Steve) Brown of Centerburg; six grandchildren: Crystal (Kelly) Nininger, Tricia (Jobe) Porter, Jennifer (Eric) Brooks, Bridget (Micah) Baird, Stevie Brown, and Brandon Brown; nine great-grandchildren: four sisters: Emma Shaw of Arizona, Mary (Chuck) Saunders of Marion, Mildred (Dick) Hines of Marengo, Shirley (Fred) Rhinebolt of Marengo; brother, Frank Jones of Marion; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Including her parents, Pat was preceded in death by two brothers: Walter and Marion Jones and her sister Elizabeth Fegley.

The Goodman family will greet friends from 2 – 6 p.m. on Sunday, February 15, at the Snyder Funeral Home, Craven Chapel, 67 N. Main St., Mount Gilead, where services celebrating her life will be held on Monday at 11:00 a.m., with Pastor Gary Miller officiating. Burial will follow in Bloomfield Cemetery in Sparta.

In lieu of flowers, her family requests memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society, 870 Michigan Ave., Columbus, Ohio 43215.
