Oscar G. Nichols

April 09, 1957 ‒ February 03, 2019

Mansfield, Ohio

MANSFIELD: Oscar G. Nichols, age 61, of Mansfield passed away Sunday, February 3, 2019 in his home following a 6 year battle with cancer.

He was born April 9, 1957 in Detroit, Michigan to parents Oka and Nina Nichols. Oscar was graduated from Ontario High School with the class of 1975 and attended Morehead State University.

On  July 20, 1980 he married Anita May with whom he celebrated 38 years of marriage.

Oscar worked for over 17 years on the sales team at Whitey’s and Mansfield Motor Group.  He prided himself with delivering excellent customer service and struck relationships with many returning customers.

He was a member of Woodville Grace Brethren Church where he served as head usher and volunteered whenever he was able.

Oscar enjoyed NASCAR, or rather, resting his eyes while the race was on TV!  He loved music of all kinds, but especially Bruce Springsteen and Contemporary Christian music.  Oscar was blessed with a servant’s heart, always going the extra mile for his customers, friends and family.  It’s really no surprise that his legacy will be one of loving kindness and consideration for others.

He is survived by his loving wife Anita Nichols of Mansfield, son Owen (Alysia) Nichols of Mansfield, daughter Sara (Cody) Ash of Columbus, four granddaughters Madalene Nichols, Alexis Nichols, Mora Sutherland, and Gabriella Nichols; siblings Samuel (Patricia) Nichols of Arlington, TX, Dr. Richard (Cynthia) Nichols of Mansfield, and Norman (Lori) Nichols of Bellville; brother-in-law Duane May; and sister-in-law Vicki May both of Mansfield, along with extended family and numerous friends.

Oscar was preceded in death by his parents.

His family will receive friends Thursday, February 7, 2019 from 2- 4 and 6-8 pm in the Lexington Avenue Snyder Funeral Home where the funeral service honoring his life will be held 11 a.m. Friday. Pastor Ron Smals and Dr. Richard Nichols will speak and burial will follow in Oak Grove Memorial Park.

Contributions in his memory to Woodville Grace Brethren Church may be made at the funeral home.

  • Although we only knew Oscar 4 years or so, we knew he was one of the good ones. From the first time I met him and his talk on how his grandkids were the best part of getting older and the big welcoming bear hug he gave. He had great love of his family and included our daughter from day one. You will be dearly missed by family and friends. Blessings.

  • A great and true gentleman who will be missed by many. The world needs more Oscar Nichols’. His honesty, integrity, love of people and caring attitude were his hallmarks. May his family draw strength from memories of happy times and find peace through Jesus Christ.

  • Oscar was my cars salesman and went to my church. I loved his smile and how he always told me have a good day kiddo. I will miss him so much just like rest of us at Woodville Grace brethren church. I can’t wait to reconnect with him someday in heaven just glad he is not suffering anymore 💖

  • You have my condolences. I did not know your husband but I knew Anita when she was young. From what I read, he sounded like a special person. My father was David May and I am his oldest child. Again I am sorry for your loss, I lost my husband 4 years ago.

  • I was so sorry to hear about Oscar’s passing. My condolences to his family.

I only knew Oscar through buying my two Hondas through him, but what a nice and genuine man he was. Never met a salesman who wanted to be your friend, would keep in contact and was always interested in what was going on in your life. Also never met someone who had such a positive outlook, even with all that he dealt with in his cancer struggle. He had a smile on his face and was just grateful for every day he had. We could all learn something from him. May he now rest in peace.

  • So very sorry to hear of Oscar’s passing. He was a kind hearted gentleman and loved by many. This world is less one great man. Prayers for his wife, children and grandchildren.

  • To the family of Oscar Nichols,
We met Oscar by accident we were talking to another sale person and decided to go out and ” look” as we were looking around out came Oscar all SMILES when were said we were talking to so and so he said it was their day off but he would be glad to help us.
I knew what I wanted and told him the color it had to be he drove us around and did what we ask.
We found a car that day !!
For 2 years Oscar called us on our birthday’s and every anniversary of the day we bought our car .
Then my car got totaled no question about it Oscar would be our sales person once again so we went back in Dec to talk it was then we found out we had a mutual friend that had passed we laughed and laughed. You felt like you knew him forever!!
Well when we were ready I called up and left a vm when he didn’t return our call I called and found out he was on medical leave so we waited. Unfortunately and sad for us we will not get our 2nd car from Oscar.
MMG has HUGE shoes to fill for sure!!
Although we are sadden of Oscar’s home going to the Lord we know we will get to see him again one day. He will meet us at heavens gate probably with Jim and cups of coffee 🙂
Our thoughts and prayers are with you all at this time.
We will be forever grateful we spent almost 3 hrs with Oscar in Dec and will never forget that contagious smile and hospitality he gave us at Nissan.

  • Oscar was just a funny and caring guy!!He made you feel happy as soon as he’d see you from across the room..and always welcomed you with a big hug! I’ll miss ya! I kno you’ll be singing in the Heavens! God took a good one early! ♥️❤️

  • We always enjoyed a good bon fire up in Oscoda, Michigan with Oscar and his family. He welcomed everyone with open arms and a huge grin on his face. The last time we saw cousin Oscar was at my beloved Grandma Kathleen’s memorial in 2017. He was so spiritual and generous with his kind words. I loved how he made an effort to come from so far away to connect with his Michigan family each summer. It showed me how much love he had in his heart for all of us. I am grateful for that time. He will be missed by all.

  • I am so sorry for your loss of a very kind husband and father.

Oscar always called me on my birthday and sang the birthday song to me. I will miss that! He was so helpful when I purchased my 2nd car from him, even came to the house to set my garage door opener in the new car.

He was always smiling and so upbeat in spite of his health issues. He was a Christian man and is enjoying his reward, at peace with our Lord.

May all your fond memories help to sustain you through these difficult days.

  • Oscar was one of kind. He was a caring, thoughtful godly man. Our deepest sympathy to his family. He is with God and won’t be suffering anymore. Love you..Anna Rebel Family❤

  • To the Nichols family,
We met Oscar by accident at MMG Nissan I had talked to someone about a car and my husband and I decided to go out and ” look” here came Oscar with a smile on his face. When I told him we had talk to so and so he said it was their day off, but he would help us. We really wanted to purchase a car so we said ok.
I said if I am paying on a car for years I want a blue car and it’s all I want to look at Oscar did just that!!
He made things so easy and treated us great.
Oscar called is on our birthdays and anniversary of us having a car, he didn’t miss a beat.
Then my car got totaled in an accident my husband met the tow truck at MMG, talked to Oscar and said we will be back to see you for another car.
So in Dec we did did and unfortunately when we were ready Oscar was on medical leave so we would wait for him.
We never got that chance but are forever gtateful for the 2 hrs we did spend with him.
In that time we found out we had a mutual friend in common who passed he told us stories and we laughed and laughed.
Although we are sadden about Oscar we rejoice we will see him one day in heaven.
My husband and my thoughts and prayers are with you at this time. Oscar will be a hard one to forget. He is the BEST sale person we ever had and considered him a friend.
