Orpenia Mims, age 82 of Delaware passed away at home Thursday, July 3, 2014.
She was born on May 28, 1932 in Logan, West Virginia to the late Herbert and Pinkey (Wilson) Woodard. A resident of Delaware since 2000, she retired from Roosevelt Hospital in New York after working 35 years as a medical technician.
A women of deep faith, she was a faithful member of Second Baptist Church. Her other memberships also include; the former Park Ave. Senior Citizens, Council for Older Adults, and Red Hat Society. She served as a volunteer for Meals on Wheels. Giving in every way, Orpenia was always willing to lend a helping hand.
With an adventurous spirit, she traveled to many unique places including Alaska. A lovely person inside and out, she collected elephants and enjoyed knitting. Possessing a caring heart, she deeply loved and cared for everyone, especially her beloved husband, children, and grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband Lewis, daughters Sheila (Kenneth) Logan of Delaware, Audrey Jennings of Columbus, step-son Walter Williams of Detroit, MI, 5 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren, brother Robert (Priscilla) Woody of Columbus, sister-in-law: Yvonne Woody, in addition to a host of additional sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, as well as special friends Margaret Harrison of Delaware and Mildred Smith of Las Vegas, NV.
She was also proceded in death by brothers Aaron and Paul.
Friends may call 11 – 1:00 p.m. on Friday at the Second Baptist Church, 55 Ross St., Delaware, where services will follow at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Lamont Coates officiating. Burial will follow in Kingwood Memorial Gardens. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Snyder-Rodman Funeral Center in Delaware.
