Olvie Britton

May 26, 1935 ‒ May 21, 2017

Lucas, Ohio

LUCAS: Olvie Britton, age 81, passed away Sunday, May 21, 2017 in OhioHealth MedCentral Mansfield of cancer.

Olvie was born May 26, 1935 to parents Norman & Velda Adkins in West Liberty, KY but the family soon moved to Ohio and she attended Lexington Schools. On May 17, 1953, she married Ira Robert Britton and they shared 44 wonderful years of marriage until he passed away in 1997. Now they are together again.

Olvie dedicated her life to creating a loving home for her husband and children. She was the ultimate crafter and was famous for saying, “I can make that.” Upon completing a project, she admired her work—often noting that hers was better. Every item was crafted with love: scrapbooks for the grandchildren’s graduations, homemade cards for every birthday, even leather wallets and beaded jewelry.

She was also an expert cook who never needed a measuring cup. Olvie’s made-from-scratch bread, sweet rolls, and macaroni salad were family favorites. She also enjoyed gardening, playing Yahtzee, and solving crossword puzzles. She was the hippest grandma—better known as Meme—and would text the number “2” to mean “I love you 2.”

Her family wishes to send a special “Thank you” to the OhioHealth MedCentral Oncology and Hospice departments for their exceptional care of Olvie. The staff treated her as though she was their own mother and her family will be forever grateful.

She is survived by four sons and daughters-in-law: Bob & Barbara Britton of Bellville, Turk & Janie Britton of Bellville, James & Dora Britton of Lucas, and Toby & Janet Britton of Bellville; a daughter Teri Pagani of Lucas; 9 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; sister Reneda Rush of Mansfield; brothers Otha & Helen Adkins of Galion and Ezra Adkins of TN; along with extended family and friends.

In addition to her loving husband Bob, she was preceded in death by her parents and an infant son Donald Britton; and siblings Avis Stallard and Denny Adkins.

Friends are invited to call 5-8 p.m. Thursday, May 25, 2017 in the Bellville Snyder Funeral Home (81 Mill Road) where a funeral service honoring her life will be held 1:30 p.m. Friday, which would have been her 82nd birthday. Celebrant Jerry Wilson will officiate and burial will follow in Mount Zion Cemetery in Lucas.
