Okey L. Dalton Sr. age 82, of Mount Vernon, died Saturday June 12, 2010 at his residence following an extended illness. Okey was born November 29, 1927 in Marlinton, West Virginia to Guy Dalton Sr. and Lora (Webb) Dalton and graduated from Hillsboro High School in Hillsboro, West Virginia. He served with the United States Army in Germany during the Korean War and moved to Mount Vernon on June 5, 1959.
He retired from the Weyerhaeuser Corporation in Mount Vernon where he had been employed as a supervisor.
Surviving are his wife Mary (Starks) Dalton whom he married October 11, 1958, his sons Okey L. (Kelly) Dalton Jr. of Mount Vernon and Larry (Brenda) Dalton of Danville; his grandchildren Natalie Dalton and Trina Ward; great grandson Zachary Ward; his brother Richard Dalton and sisters Elva Hill of Marlinton, West Virginia and Dottie Barker of Parkersburg, West Virginia. Besides his parents Okey was preceded in death by a sister Mary Farmer and brothers Guy Dalton Jr. and Sidney Dalton.
Funeral services will be Wednesday June 16, 2010 at 11am at the Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home, 201 Newark Road, Mount Vernon, Ohio 43050. Burial with military honors by the Knox County Joint Veterans Council will follow at Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens.
Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 6pm to 8pm and Wednesday one hour before the funeral service.
