Odell “Chick” Hall
March 16, 1944 ‒ January 15, 2019
Odell “Chick” Hall, age 74, of Marion, died Tuesday, January 15, 2019, at Marion General Hospital following a sixteen month battle with lung carcinoma.
On March 16, 1944, Chick was born in Hall Knot, Kentucky, the son of the late Della Breeding. He was a fighter, surviving a tough childhood without a father. As a teenager, he moved up to Marion, Ohio, in search of a better life, starting by working at his sister’s restaurant.
One fateful night at the Star Light Restaurant in Marion, Chick became smitten with one of the car hops, Vicki West. After a long courtship, they were married on November 21, 1964, and they have shared a special love during their fifty four years of marriage.
Chick learned the tricks of the trade to be an auto body technician at the West Side Body Shop in Bill Cromer’s garage. He then put everything he learned to use at McDaniel Automotive, where he worked for over forty years and retired in 2009. He was a member of the Moose Lodge, Eagles, and VFW Post 7201.
An avid bowler, Chick bowled in countless leagues all around Marion, earning his way into the Marion Bowling Hall of Fame. He also loved golfing at Kings Mill, Green Acres and the Marion Country Club, and playing poker. Another hobby he enjoyed was fishing.
The patriarch of the family, Chick devoted his life to being the best husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother he could be. He was always their first call if his family ever needed anything, because they all knew he would drop everything for them. His heart overflowed with love for his family, who were his pride and joy, and his proudest achievement.
Left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife, Vicki Hall; two children Billy (Kandi) Hall, and Rhonda (Rich) Holt; two grandchildren: Ashley (Drew) Boldman, and Kameron Hall; two great-grandchildren: Madison and Cohen Boldman; three sisters: Cookie Darnell, Brenda (Rick) Mayberry, and Karen Terzo; and several nieces and nephews.
Including his mother, Chick was preceded in death by his great-granddaughter, Emma Boldman; three brothers: Frank Wyskver, Don Terzo, and Joseph Darnell; a sister, Bobbie Adkins; and mother and father-in-law, Kathryn and Charles West.
His family will greet friends from 4 – 7 pm on Friday, January 18, 2019, at the Snyder Funeral Homes, GUNDER/HALL Chapel, 347 W. Center St., Marion. Services honoring his life will also be held there at 11 am on Saturday, with Dr. Steve Estep officiating. Burial will follow in Grand Prairie Cemetery.
