Norman W. Schaefer, age 86, of Mount Vernon, died Friday June 18, 2010 at the Laurels of Mount Vernon. Norman was born February 29, 1924 in Pomeroy, Ohio to Norman E. Schaefer and Edna (Stahl) Schaefer. He served with the United States Army, Calvary during World War Two. He was a retired machinist having been employed at Pittsburgh Plate Glass Industries and Continental Can Company both in Mount Vernon. Norman was a Methodist by faith and was a member of Thrall Lodge #170 Free and Accepted Masons in Fredericktown, Ann Hill Chapter Order of Eastern Star in Fredericktown, and the Dan Stone Post of the American Legion in Mount Vernon. Norman loved the outdoors and enjoyed his hobby of coin collecting.

Surviving is his wife Leora R. (Robinson) Schaefer whom he married March 20, 1959; his son N. David Schaefer of Mansfield; his sister Fern Dora Story of Pomeroy, his nephew John Vern Story of Pomeroy, and his feline companion “Charlie”. Besides his parents, Norman was preceded in death by his sister Mildred Perry.

There will be no calling hours. Private graveside funeral services will be held at Mound View Cemetery in Mount Vernon.
