Norma Lynn Saunders, age 64, of Mount Vernon, Ohio, passed away on Wednesday, September 13, 2017 at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born on June 4, 1953 in Washington D.C. the daughter of Harry and Mary Lou (Gaeth) Hahn. Norma worked as a nurse for over 30 years at the Mount Vernon Developmental Center before retiring and working in the home health care business.

Norma had a heart of gold and was always expressing her compassion and kindness to others. She enjoyed Saturday’s and cheering on the Buckeyes but most important she loved being with her family and cherishing every moment she had with her grandson Braxton. Norma will be sadly missed by her family and many friends.

She is survived by her two sons, Kenny Saunders and Matt Saunders; a grandson, Braxton Saunders; her father, Harry Hahn; siblings, Terese (Art) Labovitz, David (Ruth) Hahn and Mary Beth (Tim) Mohl; seven nieces and nephews; 9 great nieces and nephews and the father of her children, John Saunders.

Norma was preceded in death by her mother Mary Lou Hahn.

Friends may call on Sunday from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home, 201 Newark Road, Mount Vernon, Ohio 43050 where a funeral service will be held on Monday at 11 a.m. Pastor Scott Ness will be officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens.

Memorial contributions in Norma’s name may be made to help her good friend JJ House an actor with the MTV arts, 812 Coshocton Ave., Mount Vernon, Ohio 43050.

    I MISS YOU!

    My mind knows that you are in a a better place where there is no pain. You are at peace.
    I understand that, I just wish I could explain it to my HEART.

    There is an empty space in it that nothing will ever fill. I grieve, but I know my tears are for me because we will be together again.

    I love you Norma and miss you with all my heart. I will miss calling you after work and seeing how things are going. I wish we had more time.

    She was such a wonderful, caring woman/friend.
    I got to know her at MVDC and even better during the passing of my beloved sister in law Cathy Fish Sweet, who was her co-worker nurse at the developmental center.
    She had such kind words at Cathy’s funeral. I will never forget her compassion eulogy. She surely had a gift when it came to putting feelings on paper.
