Norma L. Haley, age 78, of Marion, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, July 26, 2017 at Kindred Nursing and Rehabilitation Community following an extended illness.

On September 5, 1938, Norma was born in Marion, Ohio, the oldest of four children of the late Roy H. and MaryEmma (Patrick) Gherman.  She graduated from Marion Harding High School in the class of 1956.

For many years, Norma helped with the daily operations at the Marion Community Foundation and Stengel-True Museum, by giving tours of the facility, cleaning, etc.  Previously, she worked in the field office at the Marion Power Shovel assisting with their traveling machine repair team.

Norma was a lifelong member of the Lee St. Presbyterian Church in Marion.

Having a huge heart for animals, Norma enjoyed the companionship of many pets over the years.  She also enjoyed line dancing and camping at the TeePee Campgrounds in Upper Sandusky.

She is survived by her son, Paul Dean (Debbie) Hughes of Friendswood, Texas; three siblings: Robert Gherman of Marion, Diane E. Williams of Marion, and Dennis (Cheryl) Gherman of Wilmington, OH; two nieces and one nephew: Jackie (Todd) Fields, Robin (Michael) Marvich, and Eric Gherman; 11 great nieces and nephews: Tiffany Richardson, Tyler, Morgan, Sierra Fields, Megan, Madison, and Mackenzie Marvich, and Kaden, Kaleb, Aaliyah, and Kara Gherman.

Including her parents, Norma was preceded in death by her former spouse, Paul E. Hughes; former spouse, Robert Haley; and a brother-in-law, Bryant Williams.

Her family will greet friends from 2-4 p.m. on Sunday, July 30, at the Snyder Funeral Homes, DENZER Chapel, 360 E. Center St., Marion.  Services honoring her life will also be observed there at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, with Pastor Scott Schnapp officiating.  Burial will follow in Chapel Heights Memory Gardens.

  • I have many wonderful and fond memories of Norman. I haven’t seen her in many years as I moved away to Tennessee but talked to her often.
