Norma Jean Phillips
December 28, 1929 ‒ April 08, 2011
Mount Vernon, Ohio
Norma Jean (Burson) Phillips was born 12/28/29 in Belleville, OH to Alva and Alice
Burson. She was known as Jeannie to her family and friends and lived most of her
life in Mount Vernon, OH. She retired to Fredericktown with her husband, Dale, who
predeceased her in 2006. They were married for 59 years.
She can best be described as a caregiver and supportive parent and grandparent. She
cared for her husband the last 25 years of his life. She took great joy in providing
support for her children as they raised their young families. She did it all, from putting
grandsons on buses in the early morning hours to providing a fun weekend outing for
her grandchildren, and at the same time, a much appreciated night out for her children.
She stayed actively interested in her grandchildren and great grandchildren’s lives and
loved to receive calls and cards with the latest news and photos as they began their lives’
adventures.
She enjoyed summer vacations in Michigan and a few trips to Florida, but as an avid
reader she made many exotic journeys all over the world. Jean always had a kind word
for everyone and would lend a helping hand and aid when it was needed. She will be
missed but warmly remembered for the example she was of a person who lived her life
honorably, in service to others, and maintained an optimistic attitude when faced with
many of life’s challenges.
Jean is survived by her children; Dennis (Susan) Phillips, Diane Phillips, and Karen
(Patrick) McLarnan, her grandchildren; Chris Watters, Jason (Wendi) Phillips, Nicole
(Tony) Schulte, Aaron Phillips, John (Emilee) McLarnan, and Seth Wells, and great
grandchildren; Kyle Schulte, Abbie Phillips, Nicholas Schulte, Kaitlyn Schulte, and
Maria Schulte.
Her siblings that survive are Margie Swank and Janet Page. She was predeceased by
brothers Stan Burson, Douglas Burson, and Duane Burson.
A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, April 12, 2011 at Forest Cemetery in
Fredericktown beginning at 11 AM. The Snyder Funeral Home in Fredericktown is
Honored to serve the family of Norma Jean Phillps.
