Nellie I. Baker, age 93, of Mount Vernon passed away on Saturday, September 30, 2017 at the Country Club Retirement Campus with her loving family by her side.

She was born on April 6, 1924 in Johnstown, Ohio to the late Leon and Stella (Piper) Smith. Nellie graduated from Harford High School in Croton Class of 1942.  She was employed as a custodian at Kenyon College and retired after 19 years of service in 1989 and was a member of the Northside Church of Christ.

She is survived by her daughter Patricia Parker; seven grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren; sixteen great-great grandchildren; her brothers Paul (Mary Jane) Smith, Tom (Maxine) Smith; three sisters, Juanita Taylor, Jane Wantland, Esther Sesser; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Nellie was preceded in death by her husband Harry Baker; her daughter Carole Grogg; two grandsons, Brad Grogg, Timothy Parker; her brother Glenn Smith; and her sister Virginia Foreman.

Friends may call on Tuesday, October 3, 2017 from 1-2PM at the Flowers-Snyder Funeral Home. A service will follow beginning at 2PM with Rev. Bruce Hissong officiating.  Burial will follow in Mound View Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Nellie’s name to the American Diabetes Association or to the American Heart Association.

I know Mom and Dad were like your kids and we all loved you so much !! And you watched Ryan grow from a baby into a grown man. You were one of his many grandmothers .
