Nelson E. Baker

Nelson E. Baker, age 80, of Fredericktown, passed away on Monday, January 30, 2012 at the Grant Medical Center in Columbus.
He was born on August 12, 1931 in Jerusalem, Ohio to the late Everett and Sarah (Beck) Baker. Nelson was a member of the Knox County Horseman’s Association. He enjoyed coon and deer hunting. He was an owner, driver and trainer of Standardbred horses. Nelson played professional baseball for two years for the Philadelphia Athletics before he joined the United States Navy where he was a Naval Aviator during the Korean War.
He is survived by his wife Frances (Hibbitts) Baker; two sons, Todd Mizer of Fredericktown, Shan (Natalie) Mizer of Fredericktown; two grandchildren, Alyssa Mizer, Ian Mizer and his sister Pauline Harper of Woodsfield.
Besides his parents, Nelson was preceded in death by his sister Rosalee Baker.
Friends may call on Thursday from 5 – 7PM at the Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home where a service will be held on Friday beginning at 1PM with Father Karl Stevens officiating. The family will observe a private burial at a later date.
