Nelson Eugene Davenport, 70, of Delaware passed away Saturday, July 25th at Grady Memorial Hospital. He was born April 30, 1939 in Sunbury, Ohio, to the late Paul James and Beverly (Basham) Davenport- Means. He was a retired Delaware County Road superintendent for 29 years and then worked 11 years in the Dennison University Engineering Department. He was a member of the Delaware Eagles #376, Delaware County Harness Horseman Association, Delaware County Matinee Club, and the United States Trotting Association. He enjoyed showing his classic car, fishing, and racing horses. He is survived by his wife of 44 years Nancy (Myers) Davenport; a daughter, Lee Ann M. Davenport; sister, Beverly Joan Matlack; 2 brothers, Kenneth L. Davenport (Joyce) and Paul J. Davenport (Doris); mother-in-law, Jeanette Myers; 2 sister-in-laws, Jenny Davenport and Margaret Myers; several nephews and nieces, John Link, Janine Conklin, Clinton Matlack, Stacy Davenport, Thad Davenport, Morgan Davenport, Doug Davenport, and Tina Davenport; numerous aunts, uncles, great nephews and nieces, cousins, and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, step –father Joseph Means, brother Douglas A. Davenport, 2 nieces Debbie Davenport and Julie Matlack, and a nephew Stoney Matlack. The family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m. on Tuesday, July 28th at Rodman Neeper Funeral Home, 1510 W. William St., Delaware. The funeral service will be at 11:00a.m. Wednesday, July 29th at the funeral home with Pastors Don Alexander and Denny Dickson officiating. The family then will gather in the Rodman Neeper Community Room after the service for a luncheon and additional fellowship. Burial will be held at a later date.
