Neil A. Magers, age 71, of Mount Vernon died on Wednesday morning, May 8, 2013 in the Emergency Room at Knox Community Hospital. He was born on September 14, 1941 in Howard, son of the late Donald and Rozella (Lifer) Magers.

Neil served his country in the Army during Vietnam and was a member of the AmVets in Mount Vernon. He had worked for the FBI in the Fingerprint Analyst Department and had received a performance award from J. Edgar Hoover. After working for the FBI, Neil returned to Ohio and worked for Weyerhauser in Mount Vernon. Neil retired from Weyerhauser with 30 years of faithful service. He always enjoyed telling or hearing a good joke. Neil loved history and was forever amazed at the marvels of God. He will be greatly missed by everyone that knew him.

Neil is survived by his children, Holly Magers of Marengo, Scott Magers of Mount Vernon, and Susan (Chad) Wilson of Anna; grandchildren, Dawson and Dillon Moreland, Eli, Andrew and Ava Wilson; brother, Dalton (Norma) Magers of Mount Vernon; sisters-in-law, Marilyn Magers of Mount Vernon and Bette Magers of Howard; several nieces and nephews; and longtime friend and companion, Nancy Zurakowski of Mount Vernon.

Besides his parents, Neil was preceded in death by his wife, Sonya (Hite) Magers in 1999; and brothers, Harold and Dean Magers.

The family will receive friends from 4-7 p.m. on Sunday, May 12, 2013 at the Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home, 201 Newark Rd., Mount Vernon. A funeral service celebrating the life of Neil will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, May 13, 2013 at the Hope Lutheran Church, 15370 Meredith State Rd., Sunbury with Pastor Chad Wilson and Pastor Bob Riggs officiating. Entombment will follow in the Mausoleum at Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens with Military Honors provided by the Knox County Joint Veterans Council.
