Nancy W. McCalla, age 86, of Mount Vernon, died Friday October 21, 2011 at the Ohio Eastern Star Home in Mount Vernon. Nancy was born April 14, 1925 in Huntington, West Virginia to Sylvester Wilgus Wylie and Minnie Agnes (Wells) Wylie. She graduated from high school in Huntington and attended Marshall University for three years.
Nancy was a faithful employee of the Mount Vernon YMCA for 16 years.
She was a member of the Saint Paul’s Episcopal Church in Mount Vernon and the Knox Chapter #236 Order of Eastern Star in Mount Vernon where she was past Worthy Matron and served as secretary for 17 years.
Surviving are her husband Boyd C. “Bud” McCalla; daughters Carolyn (Nick) Finke of Wyoming, Ohio and Charlotte (Ian) Watson of Mount Vernon; her son Dean (Cody) Donaldson of Mount Vernon and a stepson Mark (Dennie) McCalla of Hong Kong; 6 grandchildren; 2 step grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. Besides her parents, Nancy was preceded in death by a brother Sylvester William Wylie.
Friends may call Monday from 5pm to 7pm at the Flowers-Snyder Funeral Home, 619 East High Street, Mount Vernon where the Knox Chapter, Order of Eastern Star will hold a memorial service following the calling hours. A service celebrating the life of Nancy W. McCalla will be held Tuesday at 11am at the funeral home with Rev. Karl Stevens. Burial will be in Mound View Cemetery.
