Centerburg, Ohio

Nancy A. Israel, age 78 of Centerburg passed away Saturday, August 13, 2016 at Countryview of Sunbury.

She was the only child born to the late Denton and Awanda (Andres) Harsha on November 5, 1937 in Columbus. Nancy was a graduate of Linden McKinley High School in 1956 and married her high school sweetheart Charles “Andy” Israel in 1958. Together they made a home and raised their eight children.  Most proud of their marriage Andy considered her his best friend and a wonderful mother. Sadly Andy passed away in 2007.

Nancy was a member of St. John Neumann Church and the Centerburg Senior Center.  She enjoyed reading, friends, family history, gardening, canning, bingo and playing various games with her grandchildren.  A true people person Nancy was kind, patient, and possessed a gentle spirit.  She loved to laugh and there was never a harsh word spoken.

Her Cocker Spaniel; Fanny held a special place in her heart, but nothing compared to her treasured children and grandchildren.  She made each one feel special, none more than the other. She took pleasure in attending every activity and was truly engaged in every aspect of their lives.  Simply put there was no better mother.

She is survived by those whom she loved the most, her children;  Laura (Mike) Julian, Tim (Kathy) Israel, Lisa (Doug) Brown, Terry Israel, Lynne Teale (Adam Lodermeier), Amy (Chris) Titler, Rachel (Chad) Long, David (Jill) Israel, precious grandchildren: Aaron, Lindsey, Leah, Zach Julian, Holly (Ethan) Rector, Dan (Cassie), Chris (T.J.) and Katy Israel, Andy (Abbey) Schnack, Hayden , Savannah, and Rachael Brown, Drew, Stephanie, Derrick Israel, Joey, Jacob, Josh Teale, Sienna, Caleb, Josh, and Matthew Titler, Tyler, Hayley, and Ryan Long, Alex Israel, great-granddaughter Adelaide Schnack, and sister-in-law Iris Long of Knoxville, TN.

Condolences may be expressed at

  • Nancy and Andy were special neighbors. Nancy babysat for our two girls. She found ways to watch our girls even while having her large family to take care of. She is with Andy now. Our thoughts and prayers go out to all the kids and their families.

  • What a wonderful, gentle, kind soul was Nancy Israel! She was always warm and friendly to us. We know she was a good mother because each of her children has become like her as kind. and caring individuals. We usually saw her at BIG family gatherings – dinners & Easter egg hunts. She enjoyed those so much and caused the rest of us who attended to enjoy her warmth and humor! Nancy, every one who knew you will miss you. But, don’t feel bad – Andy is delighted to see you!

  • I knew Nancy as a special lady and wife to my cousin, Andy. I pray God’s love, comfort and peace to her family as they mourn their loss.
