Myrtle D. Humes Doubikin, age 94, of Mount Vernon, died Tuesday May 30, 2006 at the Ohio Eastern Star Home in Mount Vernon. Myrtle was born March 15, 1912 in Knox County to John and Lilly Vess and had spent her lifetime in the Mount Vernon area. She was a beautician by trade and had owned and operated the Charm Beauty Shop in Mount Vernon for 60 years.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Mount Vernon, the National Hairdressers Association and the Knox County Historical Society.

Surviving are her daughter Linda McQueen of Mount Vernon; five grandchildren LeAnne Tindall, Victoria (Ed) Piar and Susan Rambo all of Mount Vernon, Steven (Belinda) savage of Apple Valley and Cathryn Cooperrider of Westerville and eight great grandchildren. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husbands Paul Humes and Tellis V. Doubikin, her son Gary Humes, two brothers Chester Vess and Virgil Vess and three sisters Minnie Pipes, Edna Steinmetz and Stella Booth.

There will be no calling hours. Graveside funeral services will be Saturday at 10:30 AM at Mound View Cemetery in Mount Vernon with Rev. Bob Hendrix officiating.

The Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home in Mount Vernon is in charge of arrangements.
