Miriam H. Sayre

Miriam H. Sayre, 95, of 221 N. Union Street, Galion, died Tuesday, September 23 in Magnolia Terrace Assisted Living Facility in Galion.
Born September 14, 1908 in Galion, OH, she was the daughter of the late Ralph G. and Alma Klopp Sayre.
Miss Sayre was Galion’s grand lady of education, history and theatre. She was the esteemed, retired Galion High School English, History, Public Speaking and Drama instructor. At one time she had the privilege of working for the famed Bishop William Montgomery Brown as his reader when his eyesight failed. She graduated from Galion High School in 1926 and from The Ohio State University with both a Bachelors and Masters Degree in Education. She was a longtime member of First United Church of Christ where she served as organist for 61 years.
Miss Sayre’s memberships included the Galion Historical Society where she was a Brownella Cottage Tour Guide, the Sorosis Club, the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Crawford County Humane Society, American Legion Scarbrough Post 243 Auxiliary, The Ohio State University Alumni Association, and the Galion Community Theatre.
She is survived by her niece and her spouse, Pat and Mike Alkire, of Galion, a cousin and her spouse, Jeanne and Harold Boncutter, of Marion and numerous other relatives. Miss Sayre had many friends including Doris Clark, Mary Findley, Jane Connolly, Miriam Thayer and Donna Daniels.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Howard Sayre.
Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, September 25 at Richardson-Davis Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 26 at First United Church of Christ, 248 Harding Way West, Galion, with Rev. Samuel J. Buehrer officiating. Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery.
