August 14, 1948 ‒ September 13, 2011

Delaware, Ohio

Mindi (Linda) Rader, passed away Tuesday, September 13, 2011 at Grady Memorial Hospital. She was born August 14, 1948, to the late Lawrence and Dorothy (Curtis) Rader. In addition to her parents, Mindi was preceded in death by her brother Lawrence “Junior” Rader.

A lifelong resident of Delaware and a 1966 graduate of Hayes High School, Mindi was a creative talent in the local music community. Her love of and natural abilities in music were surpassed only by her love and devotion to her family. She will be fondly remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, sister and aunt, as well as a talented musician and singer.

Spanning decades, Mindi’s music career began when she was very young and took her all the way to Nashville. Over the years, she shared the stage with such legends as Porter Wagoner, Dottie West and Carl Smith. Later in life, she performed as lead vocalist with numerous bands including: Bristol Cream, Main Street, Front Page and Localmotion. Also, as a Jazzercise instructor, Mindi motivated others to get active and use music to get fit. Many will also remember her smiling face from the years she worked at the local Walmart store. Prior to that though, she had many loyal customers at her own Arts and Crafts shop, Briar Rose, that she operated in downtown Delaware with her sister Betty and Cousin Desi.

Mindi also sought additional ways to share her love for music with others so she opened the Stage Door Talent Company- a musical theater showcase for youngsters. She inspired other young people to express themselves through music and in this way passed her musical heritage and the joy she received from it on to others. To further benefit children, Mindi served as a teacher’s aide for both Delaware City Schools and most recently, at one of her most beloved jobs, at Buckeye Valley where she worked with a student with special needs.

Driven and dedicated in so many ways, Mindi will be fondly remembered for her love of family and the song in her heart!

Those left to cherish her memory include her children: Rob Murphy of Billings, Montana, Chad Smith of Hilliard, Shawn Daugherty of Delaware, Andrea “Andi” Hall of Delaware and her four beloved grandchildren, Skylar, Izabelle, Jacob, and Gianna, as well as her sister Betty Drumm of Florida and Sister-in-law Lydia Rader. Mindi will also be sadly missed by many other family members including her nieces Polly Ferguson, Pam Ruthig, nephews Stan and Mark Rader, her cousin Jackie Blair, friend Sue Koloff, pastor Donald Lockwood and a host of friends and fans.

Friends may gather Sunday, September 18th from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the Eagles Lodge, 127 E William St. in Delaware, where a service celebrating the life of Mindi Rader will begin at 1:30 Sunday, led by Celebrant Don Lockwood. Arrangements entrusted to DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home in Delaware.
