Michael A. Moore

August 04, 1961 ‒ January 28, 2015

Mount Gilead, Ohio

Michael A. Moore, age 53, of Mount Gilead, died Wednesday afternoon, January 28, 2015, at his residence.

He was born on August 4, 1961, to the late Ray Moore and Ethel M. (Henderson) Fannin in Portsmouth, OH. Shortly after graduating from high school, Michael enlisted with the Army National Guard. He served his country proudly while stationed in Arizona and Ohio. While serving, Michael was called to action and assigned to protect and serve the Village of Cardington after the tornado went through.

Michael was a hard worker. He spent most of his life as a laborer. Michael’s most recent job was a forklift operator for the former CORE plastics company in Mount Gilead.

In his spare time Michael enjoyed being outdoors fishing. He didn’t really have a favorite spot, just anywhere there was a water hole. Michael was active with the local AA group. He was an avid gardener. Living in an apartment there wasn’t a whole lot of space but he found a way to grow some tomatoes. With his love for the outdoors he began collecting fishing poles and pocket knives.

Michael loved his family more than anything and will be remembered for his kind heart. He enjoyed cooking and more importantly sharing his dishes with those around him. Michael often liked to share his wisdom with others since he felt he knew what was best for everyone.

He will be dearly missed by his children: Zach, Kasey, and Savannah Moore; siblings: Isac Moore, Paul Fannin, Natalie Ritchey, Linda Smith, Karen Moore, Raye Lynn Fleenor, and Angela Moore; Aunts: Sharon Stephens and Shirley Robbins; many nieces and nephews; and many great nieces and nephews.

Michael was preceded in death by his birth parents; stepfather: Kenneth Fannin; and sister: Taunye Moore.

His family will greet friends on Sunday, February 1, 2015, from 1 to 3 PM, at the Snyder Funeral Home, Snyder Chapel, 76 South Main St., Mount Gilead. Services honoring his life will be held at 3 PM with Pastor Jeff Deel officiating. A service will also be held in Portsmouth at a later date. Burial will take place at a later date in Greenlawn Cemetery in Portsmouth, OH.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Williams Syndrome Association, or to the family to assist with final expenses, and they may be sent to the care of the funeral home.

  • So saddened to learn about dear Michael’s passing! I met him last summer when I was working at the Red Cross in Mt. Gilead, which is just a few doors down from his apartment. I would walk by most days and he would be sitting outside. He was always so very friendly and I so enjoyed chatting with him. Such a dear gentleman. I took another job and didn’t see him as often but ran into him a few weeks ago at the mailbox by the Post Office. It was so good to see him again and he always had such an upbeat attitude. He told me of his love of fishing and I know how he liked to go. He took such pride in his tomato plants outside of his apt. He was just someone you instantly liked and felt at ease with. Always polite and grateful for what he had. A true gentleman! Rest in peace, sir.
