Michael Lynn Scherer, 59, of Galion, died Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2009 at Galion Community Hospital, due to complications with an epileptic seizure.

Born July 27, 1950 in Galion, he was the son of the late Richard P. Scherer and Alberta Rinehart Scherer Kassor of Bellville. He married Carolyn Fry Scherer on May 15, 2004 and she survives.

He was a graduate of Galion High School in 1969 and Ohio State Barber College in 1971. Mike was a member of First United Church of Christ in Galion, the Galion Moose Lodge 303 and American Legion Scarbrough Post 243, Galion. He had several passions in his life including art, painting, drawing, photography, music and dancing. He enjoyed all outdoor activities, especially fishing and hunting and was a former member of the Crawford County Coon Hunters Club. He liked traveling, playing billiards and children. Mike owned and operated the Head Shed barber shop in Galion for over 38 years. He sponsored T-Ball teams for many years and was a very generous man giving away many haircuts over the years. He was also an organ and tissue donor.

He is survived by his stepmother, Elizabeth S. Huber Scherer of Galion; one step daughter,
Katreena Grimes of Reynoldsburg; three step sons and spouses, Rob and Kelly Grimes of Mansfield, Craig and Lisa Grimes of Rome, Ohio and Chris Switzer of Galion; eight grandchildren, Craig, II, Destiny, Joesiah, Aaron and Austin Grimes, Christian and Melia Stackhouse and Lliam McClain; three brothers and sisters-in-law, James Kevin and Linda Scherer of Galion, Edward W. Kassor of Plymouth, Mass. and Charles James and Kelly Kassor of Gahanna; one sister and brother-in-law, Jackie and Dallas Moyer of Plain City and also numerous nieces, nephews aunts and uncles.

Friends may call from 1 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 15, 2009 at Richardson-Davis Funeral Home where services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 16, with Rev. Samuel J. Buehrer officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery.
