Michael Lynn Butterman, 27, of the Virginia Beach area and formerly of Mount Gilead died Wednesday March 19, 2008 at the Medical College of Virginia in Richmond, Virginia.

He was born on November 23, 1980 at the Morrow County Hospital, the son of Linda Butterman of Mount Gilead.

He was a graduate of Mount Gilead High School in the class of 1999. While there he excelled as a member of their cross country team.

Michael was a member of the Trinity United Methodist church where he had been active in their youth choir and youth group. His youth pastor, Rev. Matt Wald, played an influential role in Matt’s teenage years. Michael held Rev. Wald in high regard.

After high school, Michael enlisted in the United States Navy. His duty included service on several ships, including the U.S.S. Thunderbolt and the U.S.S. Mason. While in the Navy Michael made numerous friends and was very well liked.

His mother and aunt described him as being very particular and an “awesome” man with a great sense of humor.

He will be missed by his mother Linda and his aunt Jeanette Butterman both of Mount Gilead; extended family; and close military friends in Virginia

A memorial service will be held on Thursday May 15, 2008 at the Trinity United Methodist Church, 75 East High Street, Mount Gilead, at 6:30 p.m. with Pastor Ron Heasley and Pam Lamb-Hart officiating.

Snyder Funeral Home of Mount Gilead has been entrusted with the arrangements.
