Michael B. “Snowman” Snow

November 10, 1950 ‒ May 06, 2020

Mount Vernon, Ohio

Michael B. “Snowman” Snow passed away on May 6, 2020 at his home.  He was born on November 10, 1950 to the late Arthur D. Snow and Doris (Morrison) Snow.

Mike was a 1969 graduate of Mount Vernon High School and then enlisted and served his country in the US Navy sailing the World on the USS Shangri-La Aircraft Carrier where he crossed the equator.  He loved fishing the Lakes of Minnesota where he went on family vacations. Mike worked for Cooper Energy Services, Rolls Royce and Siemens and retired in 2017 with 30 years of dedicated service. He loved Myrtle Beach, SC, the Kentucky Derby, casinos and buying scratch off lottery tickets where he was actually very successful.

The greatest thing in life that Mike conquered was cancer. He was diagnosed with Stage 4 throat cancer back in 2015. With constant guidance from his brother and sister, he went thru many sessions of daily radiation and weekly chemo sessions and was in remission.

Mike was an avid bowler, poker player and most of all loved golfing.  In fact, he won his last golf game that he played on April 25th.  Mike also loved that Old Time Rock and Roll.

Mike is survived by his brother, Dick (Joanne) Snow; sister, Cheryl (Curtis) Olson; nieces, Anne (Seth) Bulan, Patty (Ben) Arrigo; Sibly Olson-Poland (Alex Kinsman)  and Jarrod Olson; great nephews, Charlie Arrigo, Joey Arrigo, Colm Crotty and Conon Crotty; his former companion and good friend, Carol (Ackerman) Rine; and his best friends, Roland (Jackie) Hanna and George (Cathy) Horlacher.

In honor of Mike’s wishes, there will be no funeral service.  A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, November 4,  2020 in Mound View Cemetery.

  • I played poker with Snowman many times over the past 10 years. He was a great player (annoyingly aggressive!) and great guy to be around. I’m grateful to have met him and had the opportunity to sit across the table from him. He will be remembered by many as one of the greats in the poker community.

    • Hi Patrick. So you think Mike was (annoyingly agressive too) I will sure miss this about him but because I was his little sister someone had to take it. Thanks for your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

  • So sorry hear about Mike. We were in High school together, I was a year ahead, but I still got blamed for some of Mike’s actions, all turned out good, because I think he took the blame for some of mine. We had good times. Michael R, Snow

  • Hi Mike. Thanks for thinking of us during this time. Mike was sure a great guy as I am sure you are too. Got a chuckle because I bet you were both ornery in school. Hope to see you at some family reunions.

  • Dick and Joanne, So sorry for your loss. Mike and I worked together for many years and he had a great sense of humor. He was a good golfer and I was not but we still enjoyed each others company when we were playing. I did not realize that he and Dick were brothers. Mike will be missed.
    Ben Rayburn

    • Hi Ben. Thank you for thinking of us during the loss of our dear brother Mike. Yes he did have a great sense of humor as long as he didn’t have to deal with that cell phone that he vowed to me that he didn’t need, but loved once he got accustomed to it. He even learned to text after throwing it across the room a few times. Then he started teaching others how to text. Imagine that. And yes I know its hard to believe that he was Dick’s little brother and I am his little sister if you ever come thru McDonalds on Newark Rd in the mornings. That nice lady at the back drive thru is Mike’s little sister. As far as his golfing he was great. I always used to tell him I’d rather bowl, the ball comes back to you. Thanks again for thinking of us during this time.

    • Hi Elaine, Thank you so much for thinking of us at this time. Was a great guy and we will miss him with all our hearts. He does look like mom in some ways, but I really do think he looked like dad and acted like him at times too. Thanks again.

  • Cheryl, Lisa & I want to express our deepest condolences for the loss of your brother. This is devastating but you will bounce back from it. To that end you have an open invitation to come sit on our couch, porch or by the pond and let loose anytime.

    Your almost brother,
    Elton Easterday

    • Hi Elton. What can I say. You have been a great friend to me for so many years. In fact one of the best bosses ever. Thanks so much to you & Lisa thinking of us during this time. We will get together soon. I have so many irons in the fire right now. When I do come out I may have to bring my sleeping bag because we’ll be up all night with stories and I know you will give me that look like you always use to when you couldn’t believe what I was saying. Thanks again my dear friend. I still smile when I surprised you at breakfast up at the Fredericktown cafe. I was so excited to get to see you. I will have to bring home one of your bottles of homemade wine for my brother and sister-in-law to try out. They are the big wine testers of Mt. Vernon.
