Merle R. Curtis, aged 73, of Delaware, passed away Sunday, September 29, 2013 at Grady Memorial Hospital while surrounded by his loving family.

One of 14 children, he was born April 22, 1940, in Delaware, to the late Stanley and Dorothy (Morton) Curtis.

Merle married the love of his life, Mary Margaret Bright August 8, 1959. He retired from Raython, formerly Sunray Stove Company as a general laborer after 32 years of service. A hard worker and man of integrity, Merle instilled his work ethic in his children. He enjoyed flea markets and collecting antique cars. Known for his campfire building, he loved being outdoors and was an avid fisherman.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Mary; son, Richard (Melissa) Curtis of Delaware; Linda Hesson of Delaware; sisters, Marilyn June Simkins; Norma (Dale) Roof; Joyce (Cecil) Milaum; and two grandchildren: Josh and Eric Hesson of Marion.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by infant son, Jonathan Curtis in 1970; son Christopher J. Curtis in 2000; and 10 brothers and sisters.

Friends may call Wednesday from 12-2 pm at the Snyder-Rodman Funeral Center, 1510 W. William Street at Valleyside, Delaware where services will follow at 2:00 pm with Pastor Debra Patterson officiating. According to Merle’s wishes, he will be cremated following his funeral.
