Mergie H. Moore, age 92, passed away Tuesday, April 28, 2015 at her daughter’s home in Gambier, where she had resided for the past five years.  She was born on April 1, 1923 in Los Angeles, C.A. to the late Harry Eli and Lyndal (Carner) Moore.  She married her childhood sweetheart, Walter Moore on July 24, 1939 and enjoyed 66 years together before he passed in 2005.

Mergie enjoyed life to the fullest.  During her retirement years she traveled to and explored 48 of the 50 states, as well as parts of Canada, with her husband Walter and their two cats who were their constant companions.  Their favorite vacations were the summers they spent in Alaska, camping in their fifth wheeler, fishing and exploring.

As a small child, Mergie was taught be her grandmother to crochet and became a master at the skill, making heirloom quality doilies, tablecloths and bedspreads for the members of her family.  She was an avid reader, enjoying hours of reading every day.  She also painted and won awards for a few of her landscapes.  She loved to cook for her family who have very fond memories of her pots of Chili and beans served with her famous homemade tortillas.  Her Snowball cookies were a Christmas tradition.  She enjoyed collecting recipes that were passed down in her family for generations.  She had a passion for jewelry and worked in a jewelry store for many years before she retired.

Mergie is survived by her children, Grace-Marie (Earl) Hackwell, Linda-Lee (Robert) Clark, Mergie (Ronald) Rizzo; a daughter-in-law, Alice Jean (Walter) Delashmutt; 8 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; and a half sister, Doris Burns; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, Mergie is preceded in death by her husband, Walter Stanley Moore Sr., and a son, Walter Stanley Moore Jr.; and her brothers, Harry and Theodore Moore; and a half-brother, Lloyd Dowis.
