Melvin L. Woolford

Melvin L. “Mel” Woolford, age 72 of Delaware, died at his home Monday evening, June 11, 2001.
He was born on Dec. 10, 1928 in Fort Ashby, WV to the late Clarence and Ethel (Offutt) Woolford. Received his Bachelors Degree from West Virginia Wesleyan, attended West Virginia University and received his Masters Degree in Business Adm. from The Ohio State University.
Served in the US Army from 1951 – 53 in the Counter Intelligence Corp. stationed in Austria. A Delaware resident since 1958 at which time be became a teacher at Delaware Willis High School and Delaware Hayes High School, retiring in 1989 as the director of business for the Delaware City Schools. After retirement he taught piano for 10 years.
Member of William St. United Methodist Church, the chancel choir and bell choir. Former member of First Presbyterian Church, Delaware. Member of the Delaware Kiwanis Club. A man of honesty and integrity who enjoyed music as well as hard work.
Survived by his wife of 47 years: Mary Faye (Martin) Woolford, whom he married on May 27, 1954, Daughters: Katherine (Mark) Kemp of Delaware, Dr. Elizabeth (Paul) Listerman of Edgewood, KY, 4 Grandchildren: Aaron Kemp, Molly, Abby, and Adam Listerman.
Preceded in death by Brothers: Earl & Vernon Woolford, Sister: Helen Long.
Friends may call Friday from 6-8 p.m. at DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, 75 W. William St. (SR 36) Delaware. Graveside services will be held Saturday 12:00 Noon at Oak Grove Cemetery. A memorial services will be held 7:00 p.m. Saturday evening, June 16, 2001 At William St. United Methodist Church, Pastors Sharon Beattie and Norman Snook officiating.
