Melvin L. “Mel” Mantor, age 71 of Sunbury and formerly Columbus, died Sunday morning at St Ann’s Hospital in Westerville.
He was born on January 30, 1939 in Ostrander to the late Clarence and Ruth (Patrick) Mantor. A US Air Force Veteran, member of the American Legion in Apache Junction, Arizona and Glenwood United Methodist Church in Columbus. He was a retired Transportation Supervisor for International Harvester in Columbus with 42 years of service retiring in 2004. A resident of Columbus until 6 years ago when he had moved to Arizona and 9 months ago returned to Sunbury.
Mel was a workaholic remolding houses, making doll houses or doing anything with his hands. Trips to Gatlinburg, TN, the mountains of Arizona and sunsets the of Arizona were things he enjoyed with his family.
He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years: Wanda Walker Mantor and they were married May 6, 1962 in Galena; son: Michael Mantor of Columbus; daughter: Lori Mantor of Columbus; grandchildren: Justina, Amanda, Mitchell, Kaylan; nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by brothers Gerald and Clarence Jr.
Friends may call Wednesday from 11a.m.-1p.m. with the funeral service 1 p.m. at the DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, SR 3 at 61, Sunbury. Interment with Military Honors will follow in the Sunbury Memorial Park.
