Melvin G. “Bill” Queen, Jr., 67, of 340 Second Ave., Galion, passed peacefully at home Saturday, May 19, 2007, surrounded by his family, after a short illness.

Born Mar. 20, 1940 in Georgia, he was the son of the late Melvin Queen, Sr. and Georgia McDowell Queen. He is survived by his wife, Julie Nelson Queen whom he married May 20, 1989.

He was an U. S. Army Veteran serving in Vietnam, Korea and Alaska for 20 years before retiring as a Master Sergeant. He was a member of the American Legion Scarbrough Post 243, V.F.W. Post 4329 and Polk Twp. AMVETS Post 1979 where he was very active and held many different positions including Commander for the past two years. He worked for the Federal Government in Alaska for 10 years as a mechanic before moving to Galion 18 years ago. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, dancing and playing guitar.

Surviving are his two sons, Mark and Rusty Queen of Alaska; two daughters, Kathryn and Tonya Queen of Alaska; one granddaughter, Amanda Queen; one sister and brother-in-law, Margaret and Phillip Fulcher of Virginia; two sisters-in-law, Kathy Lake and Sherri Triplett, both of Ontario; nephews and nieces, Jason and Danielle Kragh, Tony Brown, Laura Nash, Julie Nash, Faith Lake and Chelsea Triplett and mother-in-law, Wilma Nelson of Galion.

Friends may call from 6 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 22, 2007 at Polk Twp. Amvets Post 1979, 420 Harding Way E., Galion, where services will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday with Father James Halleron officiating. Burial will be in Iberia Cemetery.
