May W. Shumaker

May Shumaker grew up on a farm and knew that value of hard work and family. She always took care of her family and now God has gained another angel. May W. Shumaker, 91, of Galion passed away Friday, September 21, 2018 at the Primrose Retirement Community in Mansfield. She had been in declining health this year.
She was born December 16, 1926 in Galion and was the daughter of Charles and Edna (Cronenwett) Baker. On May 30, 1948 she married Burnell E. Shumaker and they enjoyed 58 years of marriage until his passing on January 26, 2007.
May attended Galion Schools and at an early age, she was the oldest of five children, she quit school to help her mom take care of her four siblings. May was an active and life time member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Galion. She had been a member of the Elizabeth Circle at church and sewed quilts. She had also been a member of the Homemakers Club and Garden Club. May loved anything to do with flowers and gardening.
May is survived by her sons Charles Shumaker and Mark Shumaker both of Galion; daughters Judy (Jim) Goebbel of Hillard and Lynne (Mike) Miller of Mansfield; five grandchildren Angela Smith, Jim (Lori) Erf, Stacy (Aaron) Holt, Bandon (Tiffany) Stewart and Shelby Miller; 13 great-grandchildren Blake, Addisen and Brynn Holt, Garrett and Shirah Smith, Katie, Sarah, Amanda and Danielle Pickens, Gage and Kayley Stewart, Asher and Hayden Erf; sisters Iva Mahler and June Baker both of Galion; brother Harold (Ardell) Baker of Shelby and a sister-in-law Jean Baker Taylor of Galion.
In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by a granddaughter Monica (Erf) Pickens; brother Art Baker; sister-in-law and husband Genevieve (Thomas) Holmes and a nephew Artie Baker, Jr.
The family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, September 27, 2018 at Richardson Davis Chapel of Snyder Funeral Homes, 218 South Market St., Galion, Ohio 44833. A funeral service will be held Friday, September 28 at 11:00 a.m. in Trinity Lutheran Church, 291 North Union Street, Galion with Rev. Richard Genzman officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery.
