May Elizabeth Viers (Barrows), age 87 of Delaware passed away Tuesday evening, July 20, 2010 surrounded by her family at Country View Care Center in Sunbury.

She was born May 5, 1923 in Galena to the late Kyle P. and Laura C. (Stout) Barrows. A graduate of Orange High School in 1941, she moved to Fountain Avenue in Delaware in 1969 from Lewis Center.

May retired in 1985 from the Nationwide Training Center, where she worked as a receptionist. A woman of deep faith she had been an active member of Delaware Bible Church and enjoyed bible study.

She respected nature, loved to garden and tend her numerous flowers. She also enjoyed the farm life experienced during her younger years. May collected Native American art and gathered a large collection of chicken figurines. Always the photographer, she made numerous photo albums of her treasured family and enjoyed taking long walks.

A wonderful cook, her chicken noodles, cinnamon rolls, and Christmas caramels will long be remembered. Kind, thoughtful, and always considerate, she treasured time spent with her grandchildren and especially time at home at her” little house” which she made a home for all who entered.

She loved unconditionally and kept her family close, as they were most important.

May will be missed by her family; children Allen Viers of Sumter, SC, Candace (Clem Hodge) Hartzler of Worthington, Philip (Christy) Viers of Lewis Center, Tom Viers of Danville, Michael (Sue) Viers of Delaware, 14 Grandchildren, 9 Great-grandchildren, sister Amelia Ann (Charles) Hall of Galena, brother Bud Barrows of Delaware, former husband Marion “Jack” Viers, nieces, nephews, and friends.

In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by son: David in 1993, granddaughter: Nicole Goodman in 2003, brother: Albert Barrows, and sister: Eileen Lagendyk.

Friends may call Friday 5-8 p.m. at the DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, 75 W. William St. (SR 36), Delaware. A service celebrating the life of May will be held Saturday 10:00 a.m. at Delaware Bible Church, 45 Belle Ave., Delaware with Pastor Marvin Hintz officiating. Burial will follow in Cheshire Cemetery.
