Matthew Guy Bartlett
March 27, 1991 ‒ February 21, 2009
MANSFIELD: Matthew Guy Bartlett, 17, passed away on Saturday, February 21, 2009 in The Cleveland Clinic surrounded by his loving family. Guy bravely fought a rare mitochondrial disease for many years.
Guy was born on March 27, 1991 in Mansfield.
He was a graduate of St. Mary’s Elementary School where he earned several awards and honors. He volunteered in the Kindergarten classroom. Guy also attended Lexington schools.
Guy enjoyed riding bikes and playing baseball. He loved watching action movies and cartoons with his dog Daisy at his side. He loved celebrating any occasion surrounded by his friends and family, especially if it involved his grandma’s bread. His family was extremely important to him. His brother Will, was his best friend. He took his job of being a big brother seriously. He always made a point to hug his “little men” each day. The nurses that took care of Guy also became his family, especially Alisa Gandee and Tammy Shepherd. He loved them very deeply.
Guy will be remembered for his compassion, sense of humor, and his smile, which would light up the room. Guy wanted to be a teacher. He did accomplish this goal. He taught his family and friends on a daily basis how to be brave with whatever life threw at him.
Guy will be remembered by his parents Matthew and Amy Bartlett; brothers Will, Scott, and Logan Bartlett and Justin White; mother Christine Nixon; a large, loving extended family and many friends.
The Bartlett family will receive friends on Friday, February 27, 2009 from 4-7 p.m. in the Lexington Avenue Snyder Funeral Home where a Vigil Service will begin at 7 p.m. A Memorial Mass will be offered on Saturday at 11 a.m. in St. Mary of the Snows Catholic Church, 1630 Ashland Road, Mansfield, with Father Keith McCormack officiating.
