Mary Ruth Ward, 72, of Mount Gilead, went to be with the Lord on Friday, April 4, 2008 at her residence, following an extended illness.
She was born on February 19, 1936 in Dainte, Virginia to the late Wiley and Ethel (Byrd) Stewart. She was a homemaker and had been engaged in farming along with her family for many years. She loved reading and especially enjoyed mysteries and romance novels. She enjoyed cooking for the family and the get together’s, churning butter and watching game shows.
She is survived by her husband- Claude C. Helton; 2 daughters- Polly Lambert and Roisa (Tim) Grubb, both of Marion; 3 sons- Robert (Pat) Ward and Donald H. Ward, both of Mount Gilead, and Bennie Ward of Kentucky; 1 step-son—Thomas Helton of Virginia; 4 brothers- Jim Stewart, Bud Stewart, Ed Stewart and David Stewart, all of Tennessee; 2 sisters- Brenda Hensdale and Alice Marie Scott, both of Tennessee; 17 grandchildren; 43 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents that preceded her in death, was her first husband- Robert R. Ward in 1993; 4 brothers; 5 sisters; 2 great grandchildren; and her son-in-law—Howard G. Lambert, Sr.
The family will receive friends on Monday, April 7, 2008 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., in the Rodman Neeper Funeral Home, 1510 West William Street, Delaware, where funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 8, 2008 at 11:00 a.m., with the Rev. Christina Robin Shipley of Mount Gilead, officiating. Burial will be in the Fairview Memorial Park, Delaware.
