Mary Louise VanSickle

December 07, 1940 ‒ March 09, 2019

Marengo, Ohio

Mary Louise VanSickle, age 78 of Marengo, passed away Saturday, March 9th, 2019 at home.

She was born on December 7, 1940 in Berger, MO to the late Frederick and Lillie (Diederich) Waterer.  Mary graduated from Cardington High School in 1958. She met the love of her life here in Ohio, V. Delson VanSickle, and they were married April 10, 1960 in Cardington. Together they shared over 58 wonderful years raising their family and making a home. In addition to being a homemaker, Mary served in the kitchen for the Ohio Retreat Center for many years.

A longtime member of the Fargo Wesleyan Church, Mary was a happy, friendly person who always found the good in people, and was extremely generous. Every year she would hand make Christmas presents for the kids at Children’s Hospital in Columbus, along with making Christmas cookies for everyone. Mary enjoyed telling stories, painting, crocheting, gardening and tending to her flowers, and reading and working puzzles. But she especially enjoyed watching old television shows, particularly science fiction episodes.

Her greatest achievement was raising a successful family (along with husband Delson, of course) and seeing their children raise successful families of their own.

In addition to her husband Delson, Mary is survived by brother Louie (Bonnie), Prescott, AZ, sons Kevin (Janice), Marengo, and James, also of Marengo; daughter Susan (Tony) Breece, Delaware; grandchildren: Misty (Christina), Ben (Tabitha), Mariah (Shawn), Stephanie (Rob), Phillip (Lizzie), Lisa (Luke), James, Ida, and Tony, as well as five great-grandchildren. Mary was preceded in death by son Timothy and brothers Jim and Don.

Friends may call Tuesday, March 12th from 4-7 p.m., at the DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, 637 N. St. 61, Sunbury, where service will be held Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. with Pastor Dean Pierce officiating. Interment will follow in Bloomfield Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the family to assist with funeral expenses.  Condolences and special memories may be shared at The DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home of Sunbury is honored to serve the VanSickle family.
