MANSFIELD: Mary Louise Fisher passed away Sunday evening, January 20, 2019 in her home. She was 90.
Mary was born March 12, 1928 in Continental, Ohio to the late George E. and Nellie (Hitchcock) Treece and was graduated from Continental High School in 1946 as Valedictorian. She was also graduated from Bowling Green State University with a bachelor’s degree and earned her master’s degree from La Verne University and attended Ashland University.
Mary taught school in Elyria, McClure, Cleveland, Lewisburg and Mansfield where she started at West First School and the last 20 years at Carpenter School and was active with the YMCA Kinder Camp program.
During early years, she was active in Mansfield Jay Cs’ wives, member of the American Association of University Women. Mrs. Fisher was a life member of Retired Teachers, Richland County Retired Teachers Association, Delta Kappa Gamma, Jennings Scholar, Astowela Garden Club, as well as volunteering at Kingwood Center and the Renaissance Theater for over 25 years. She served on the board of Citizens for Child Development Day Care for many years.
Mary enjoyed reading non-fiction books, working cross word puzzles, home decorating, old furniture restoration, traveling and gardening.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church for over 50 years where she was in the choir and served as a Trustee. She was also active in United Methodist Women, Susanna Circle and the Emmaus Group. She enjoyed couple’s Pinochle Club and many Bridge Clubs.
Mary is survived by her husband, Donald E. Fisher of Mansfield, whom she married June 25, 1950. Also surviving are her children Rev. Cynthia Ann and Rev. Mark Freer of Mansfield and Dr. James T. Fisher of Florida; four grandchildren Andrew and Sara Freer, Matthew Freer, Bobby Fisher and Julie Fisher; and two great granddaughters Ada and Miriam Freer.
In addition to her parents, Mary is preceded in death by three sisters Ellen (Charles) Bell, Ara Jean (Don) Zigler, and Lenore (Bob) Armbust.
Friends may call Thursday, January 24, 2019 from 2-4 & 6-8 pm in the Finefrock Chapel of the Marion Avenue Snyder Funeral Home where the funeral service honoring Mary Fisher will be held Friday, January 25, 2019 at 11 am at the funeral home. The Rev. Becky Weamer and the Rev. Dr. Blake Wagner, Sr. will officiate. A graveside service will be held Saturday, January 26 at 11 am in Harmon Cemetery, near Ottawa, Ohio.
Memorial contributions in honor of Mary may be made to First United Methodist Church, through the funeral home.
