Mary Lou Wood, 81, of Galena died Saturday evening, October 14, 2017 at Mount Carmel East Hospital.

She was born on June 8, 1936 in Columbus, Ohio the daughter of the late James and F. Lenore (Fox) Atkinson.

Mary married Robert D. Wood on June 23, 1956 at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Westerville.  They were married for 51 years before his passing in 2008.  Together, they were former owners of the Village Tavern in Sunbury for 10 years.

She was a lover of animals, especially her dogs and birds.  Mary had a Schnauzer, Shih Tzu, and a Rat Terrier, and even had her own aviary with Parakeets and Parrots.

Mary was also big into quilting, having all the necessary equipment and tools to make beautiful tapestries that you could find all over her home.

She will be missed by her sons Jim (Cathy) Wood, Curtis (Steve Halloway) Wood, Craig (Carla Carter) Wood all of Galena, Christopher (Deborah Severt) Wood of Delaware; daughter Luanne (Tom Howard) Stulpin of Sidney; 14 grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren; her brother Michael (Andrea) Atkinson of Galena; and numerous nieces and nephews

In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by her grandson Josh.

Celebration of Life services will be held on Friday, October 20, 2017 at 3 PM at the DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, 637 North State Route 61, Sunbury, Ohio 43074.  Friends may call on the family from 2 PM until the time of the service.  Private graveside services will take place at a later date.

  • I enjoyed waiting on Mary Lou and all of the family at The Delaware County Bank. I remember she would bring her Pot Belly Pig in. So yes… she loved animals. She will be missed.
