Mary L. Vance, age 76, of Mount Vernon, Ohio, passed on Wednesday, December 12, 2018 at Knox Community Hospital surrounded by her loving family. She was born on January 10, 1942 in Mount Vernon, Ohio, to the late Martha (Stoutenburg) Strait.

Mary went to St. Vincent Catholic High School before attending Mount Vernon Business School. Mary was a homemaker and enjoyed the finer things in life.  Her most precious moments were spending time with her family.

She is survived by her children, Samuel (Bunny) Vance, Lisa (Greg) Carpenter; two grandchildren, Kerra (Michael) Hines, Jillian Vance; two great-grandchildren, Delaney and Kale Carpenter; brothers, Harry Shanyfelt, Michael (Mary Ann) Shanyfelt; sisters, Helen (Brice) Twigg, Teresa (Dave) Eberhardt; and several nieces and nephews.

Along with her mother, Mary is preceded in death by her husband, Samuel W. Vance; and her brother, Raymond Shanyfelt.

A graveside service will be held on Friday, December 14, 2018 at 3:00 PM at Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens.
