Mary K. Spurlock

Mary Katherine “Mommaw” Spurlock, age 78 of Delaware died Monday evening, August 15, 2005 at Grady Memorial Hospital in Delaware.

She was born on April 13, 1927 in Cable County, W.V. to the late Allan and Zola (Johnson) Yates. Mary moved to Delaware in 1951 from Richwood, where she had operated a restaurant. She also worked in the kitchen for Ranco Controls and as a nurse’s aid with Sarah Moore Home.

During WW II she volunteered for the American Red Cross by wrapping bandages. Mary was a charter member and member since 1954 of the Lake Street Church of God. She enjoyed making crafts and collecting elephants.

Survived by Son: Richard (Audrey) Spurlock of Auburndale, FL, Adopted Daughter and Granddaughter: Maletta (David “Jake”) Baughman of Fredericktown, three other Grandchildren: Chuck, Gloria, and Mary, 8 Great-grandchildren, Two Great-Great-grandchildren, and Brother: Charles (Mary Lou) Yates of Huntington, WV.

Preceded in death by her husband of 49 years: Charles Walter Spurlock on Oct. 4, 1994, Step-father: Boyd Smithers, and a Sister: Regina Shoaf.

Friends may call Thursday 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. at DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, 75 W. William St., Delaware, where services will be held Friday 10:00 a.m., with Rev. Daniel Maurer officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Memorial Park.
