Mary Josephine (Lupica) Cummins

February 28, 1941 ‒ July 18, 2021

Marion, Ohio

Mary Josephine (Lupica) Cummins, age 80, of Delaware, passed away July 18, 2021 at The Inn at Olentangy in Delaware.

Mary was born in Marion, Ohio on February 28, 1941 to the late Joseph and Catilena (Germana) Lupica.  She attended St. Mary School and graduated from Marion Catholic High School in 1959.

Mary was a loving mother and grandmother always providing for her family.  Over the years, Mary owned and operated several restaurants including Pizza Villa on Main Street, Lupica’s Pizza Villa on Mount Vernon Avenue, and Annie’s Restaurant on Delaware Ave.  After retiring from the restaurant business, Mary owned and operated Home Décor in Marion until she retired.

Mary loved her family more than anything and wanted to make them feel loved and appreciated.  Everyone had a big spaghetti dinner with a favorite dessert for their birthday.  When her children were young, Saturday nights were reserved for watching movies, playing games, and spending time together.  Mary was always up for an adventure especially if it involved a trip to the Casino or the Football Hall of Fame.  Mary could often be found watching College or Professional Football especially if Tom Brady, Brady Quinn or John Elway were playing.  Mary was lucky enough to see John Elway be inducted into the Football Hall of Fame.

Being a devout Catholic, Mary was a life-long member of St. Mary Church, Marion and attended Mass every Saturday night with her friends Carol and Kay.  After Mass the three always went to dinner!

Mary will be missed by her children, Colleen (Douglas) Potts of Marion and their children, Kristina, Laura, and Bradley; Mark (Jeanette) Fleming of Worthington and their children, Mark David Jr, Angela and Brittany; Dr. Chris (DeAnn) Fleming of Cincinnati and their children,  Alexa, Zachary, Mallory and Ryan; Annette (Paul) Haggarty of Powell and her children, Sean and Sarah; and Michelle (Matt) Benedum of Lewis Center and their children, Olivia and Sophia; 6 great-grandchildren; and sisters, Ann Dicken and Grace Kilbury.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, George Lupica, Joseph Lupica, Jr., Catherine Hurr, Ginny Bassler, and Connie Vacca.

Visitation will be held at Snyder Funeral Homes, Gunder/Hall Chapel (347 West Center St., Marion) on Thursday, August 12, 2021 from 4 until 7 pm.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary Church, Marion on Friday, August 13, 2021 at 10:30 am with Father Thomas Buffer presiding.  Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Marion.

Donations may be made in Mary’s honor to St. Jude’s Children Hospital or St. Mary Church, Marion.

  • We are so sorry for your loss. Your Mother was a special lady….I have many special memories of your Mom when I was growing up….she made me quit sucking my thumb…was taking my nap at Grandma’s house and she came upstairs and told me if she caught me again..I don’t know what she was going to do. But it worked. I could name many more. Unfortunately when the family moved to Arizona we didn’t get back often. I know that your Mother was well loved by her family and friends. My prayers are with you all. Your cousin, Carol
