Mary Jean Adams
February 04, 1963 ‒ February 28, 2008
Mount Gilead, Ohio
Mary Jean Adams, 45, of Mount Gilead died Thursday morning, February 28, 2008 at her home surrounded by her family.
She fought a courageous three year battle with cancer. A positive attitude got her through the worst of her illness. “Attitude is the key” was her mantra.
She was born on February 4, 1963 in Mount Gilead the daughter of Robert D. and Faith L. (Goldsmith) Creswell of Mount Gilead.
A resident of Mount Gilead her entire life, Jean was a graduate of Northmor High School in the class of 1981 and a strong supporter of the schools. She continued her education at The Ohio State University where she received her bachelor’s degree in education.
After completing her college education she married Brian K. Adams. They were united in marriage at Iberia Presbyterian Church on June 20, 1987.
Jean was dedicated to children with special needs. She used her exceptional skill as a preschool teacher at Whetstone School.
She attended the Heartland Alliance Church, North Woodbury Campus.
With the ability to find a good bargain, Jean could fully appreciate a well priced pair of shoes or new purse. She also displayed these skills at local auctions.
Jean spent hours watching her favorite television station “TV Land”, during her illness. If she had to choose from one of the “oldies” the Andy Griffith Show would be listed as her favorite.
She could also get lost in a quality book. She was particularly fond of mystery novels by Janet Evanovich.
Competitive in nature, Jean liked gathering the family around the table for a game of Trivial Pursuit. She would drive herself crazy trying to come up with the correct answer.
She will be remembered as a compassionate and loving woman. Through her illness she remained strong, never wavered, and even maintained a sense of class about herself.
While she was very fond of her role as a teacher and church member, Jean’s most cherished role was that of wife, mother, sister, and daughter. She loved her kids and was very proud of all their accomplishments.
Left to cherish her memory are her parents Robert and Faith Creswell of Mount Gilead; husband Brian; their children Mackenzie, Bridget, Spencer, and Jeremiah Adams all at home; siblings Bill (Ruth) Creswell of Mount Gilead, Sandy (Steve) Woosley of Elyria, Dee (Terry) Rush of Edison, and Ronda (Brent) Winand of Mount Gilead; father and mother-in-law Jerry (Barb) Adams of LaRue; brother-in-law Barry (Jennifer) Adams of Prospect; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Friends may call on the family on Sunday March 2, 2008 from 2-7 p.m. at the Snyder Funeral Homes, Craven Chapel, 67 North Main Street, Mount Gilead. Pastor Brian Mackey will conduct services on Monday at 11:00 a.m. at the Heartland Alliance Church, North Woodbury Campus, 6385 State Route 314, Mount Gilead. Burial will follow in Iberia Cemetery.
