MANSFIELD: Mary Jane Wadsworth, 88, of South Trimble Road, Mansfield, died Friday afternoon March 11, 2005 in Winchester Terrace following a long illness.

She was born April 26, 1916 in Mansfield to William and Iva (Hout) Early, was graduated from Mansfield Senior High School in 1934 and earned her teaching certificate from Ashland College in 1936.

Prior to her marriage, Mary Jane taught grades one through eight in the former one-room schoolhouse on Ganges Road in Northern Richland County.

Then on June 18, 1939 she married Ralph Harold Wadsworth, and home and family became her focus. Ralph preceded her in death in 1994.

Mary Jane was a lifelong member of First United Methodist Church, served as a member of the Epworth Guild, and chose to center and revolve her social attention on and around church activities.

She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law Carole and Forrest William Byron of Tavares, Florida, and Joyce “Jody” and William D. Frasher of Mansfield; three grandchildren Cathy and her husband Omar Velazquez of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, Linda Byron of Columbus and Laura Frasher of Mansfield; and two sisters-in-law Edith Early of Cedar Park, Texas and Claire Early of Sedro Woolley, Washington.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers John, Paul and Robert Early.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, March 15, 2005 from 5-7 pm in the Lexington Avenue Snyder Funeral Home, where the service celebrating her life will be held Wednesday at 11 am. The Rev. Charles Tobias will officiate. Burial will follow in Mansfield Cemetery.

Memorial contributions to First United Methodist Church or Ashland University may be made at the funeral home.
